Specialised Haemorrhoid Treatment

The Haemorrhoid Clinic, in Christchurch, is the South Island’s only clinic specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of haemorrhoids.

The Haemorrhoid Clinic has been established by local surgeon Paul Fogarty in response to the growing demand for such treatment among people. The clinic is also in keeping with international trends towards a focused approach to health problems by a team with a specialised interest in the condition.

"Haemorrhoids are particularly common disorders. By age 50, up to half of all New Zealanders will have been affected by haemorrhoids, or piles as they are more commonly known," Haemorrhoid Clinic surgeon Mr Fogarty says.

However haemorrhoids can often be effectively managed by simple local medication, and dietary and lifestyle changes, he says.

"Less advanced haemorrhoids (the most common) can usually be treated simply and effectively during a brief visit to the specialist clinic," Mr Fogarty says.

"Previously surgery for haemorrhoids was regarded as a particularly painful procedure, often requiring extended time off work."

"But with advances in the management of haemorrhoids, the recent stapling technique has almost eliminated postoperative discomfort and has allowed a rapid return to work, usually measured in days rather than weeks."

The team at the Haemorrhoid Clinic are widely experienced, and provide a friendly, caring approach with full attention to patient privacy.

Information regarding haemorrhoid management options is available freely on request. Please phone The Haemorrhoid Clinic on 961 6666.
